What is the difference between a winch and a hoist?
This is somewhat controversial, and the answer may differ between experts. TWG’s definition is that a winch includes a drum that rope can wrap around, and it is designed pull a load horizontally along the ground. A hoist is like a winch except that it is designed to lift and suspend a load in the air, which has different industry regulatory requirements than a winch.
What are the calculators and how do I find them?
There are 5 calculators in CPQ to aid in selecting the best product for your application.
- Drum capacity: calculate rope capacity on a winch and hoist
- Winch and hoist performance: calculate the line pull and speed on any layer
- Hydraulic pump drive: calculate required torque from your hydraulic pump pressures and flows
- Fluid power: calculate hydraulic motor torque, power and speed
- Drive: calculate required input torque in a gear set
